Mentally disturbed man enters restricted airport area, fined

A 33-year-old mentally unstable man was fined Rs 1,200 by the Sahar police last night for entering the restricted area around the International airport. Satish Chande was caught by CISF personnel when he tried to enter the airport canteen.

Chande's mental state emerged after the CISF personnel handed him to the Sahar police. During the interrogation, Chande kept giving inconsistent replies. He first gave his name as Santosh Narang, then changed that to Douglas John Goldberg and gave a London address.

The police finally found his brother's number on him and contacted the family.

The brother, a labourer, confirmed that Chande was mentally unstable. He said Chande was a graduate, but was removed from his job five years ago.

He was charged under section 120, 22, and 51 of the Bombay Police Act for entering a restricted area.

A Sahar police officer said, "Chande lives in Airoli with his family. But they don't take adequate care, so he wanders around.
