Who swept us off our feet and who disappointed at the annual MET Gala? Here's our report card

MET Gala 2016: The best and worst dressed Hollywood stars

They call it the 'Oscars of the East Coast' and 'party of the year' among many other things and rightly so because the MET Gala brings in glamour and magic like no other event.

This year's theme was 'Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology' basically aimed at exploring the science behind handmade couture and machine-made fashion. As expected, we saw a lot of silver and metallic designs on the red carpet. Many looked delightful while some others failed miserably. hitlist points out the best and worst dressed celebs:

Best
Claire Danes
Claire Danes
She stood out at this year's Gala without a doubt. While at first glance her gown just looks like a normal princessy number, it was in the dark that it really shone — literally. The volumnious, powder blue gown transformed and glowed like fireflies in the dark and we can't stop ogling. Not only does this go with the theme, it also displays the elegance that a high-end fashion event calls for (Take a cue, Madonna).

Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman
In a stunning ensemble that resembled a futuristic princess, Kidman drew in a lot of gasps as she entered. While she sashayed down the rug with the glory of her gown in full display, she also wore a confident expression, fully aware that she had nailed it.

Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner
In the middle of a global debate over whether or not she is an actual supermodel, Jenner showed us how to stick to theme without going overboard. A perfect example of handmade and machine-made fashion, the model wore a Versace number with strategically placed cuts. Extra points for wearing a ponytail and keeping the make-up understated.

Zendaya
Zendaya
Not only can she sing and dance, she also knows a thing or two about fashion. In keeping with the theme, she opted for a bronze off shoulder beaded gown with a hairdo à la Cleopatra. That colour complemented her skin tone too.

Worst
Madonna
Madonna
If there's one thing that remains undisputed, it is that Madonna can still create a stir on the red carpet — and hardly in a good way. She stepped out in an outfit which gave us ample view of her rear. While it's commendable that the rock icon refuses to 'act her age', it is a little cringeworthy how trashy her red carpet appearances are becoming by the day.

Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato
She tops our worst dressed list. The songstress opted for garish gold patterns, huge sequins and sleek hair. The dress comes across as trying-too-hard to fit the theme and fails miserably.

Solange
Solange
Solange is no stranger to the worst dressed list. But who would have thought that she could go from bad to worse to downright confusing so drastically? Skin tight, thigh-high latex stockings and towering frills made for her ensemble this year, if you can still call it that.

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga forgot her pants at home again. The worst thing about this look is that it's done to death by Gaga herself. The only thing that stood out were the heels which could probably give you vertigo. That said, it was a welcome throwback to her early days of being the pop star that she truly is.
