According to Cricket Australia, Clarke''s lower back injury, which saw him withdraw from the fourth Test against India, is causing him constant pain and needs to be managed carefully for which he needs to be off a training pitch for at least seven weeks, the Herald Sun reports.

CA’s chief medical officer Justin Paolon said that Clarke''s back issues are a culmination of previous problems in his spine, adding that the injury needed to be managed carefully as there are potentially serious consequences with further aggravation.

Paolon further said that Clarke still experiences pain even with basic activities and is not able to function completely, adding that his hamstring injury is an added concern and will complicate his return.

Although Paolon said that the captain is having intensive rehabilitation for both his back and hamstring and expressed his confidence that the injury will not affect Clarke’s Ashes preparation, he, however, stated that Clarke still 7-10 weeks away from returning to training and playing. Clarke’s intensive rehab program will be overseen by the CA medical team and back specialists in Australia, the report added.u00a0
