“At 10.40 pm we got a call from Air Traffic Control that an Air India flight had requested the emergency team at Mumbai to be on standby,” said a source at the airport. But the ‘standby’ soon turned into a full-fledged ‘emergency’. Accordingly, emergency teams at Mumbai airport comprising fire vehicles and medical personnel advanced to the runway, the source added.u00a0

Though no reactions from Air India were available at the time of going to press, sources indicated that a hydraulic system failure in the Airbus A320 could be the probable cause of the problem. Passengers came off the plane and were inside the Mumbai airport terminal building till late yesterday night. There was no information on how the onward journey would be completed.

Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd, the airport’s operator, confirmed that emergency teams were sent in for the flight. u00a0
