It was time to wake up and smell the coffee...u00a0 or drink the wine and champagne as a somnolent Sunday afternoon got zany and zingy at the Hilton-Trident Rooftop, Nariman Point, on March 27. MiD day got down to the entirely serious business of celebrating our 31st anniversary with a brunch that stretched into the early evening.

Guests started filtering in soon after 12 pm and within an hour, the Rooftop came alive with the chatter of invitees, the clink of cutlery on plates and laughter.
Even as the champagne twinkled in the flutes like sunbeams glancing off the water in the Arabian Sea, seen through the Rooftop's windows, guests gathered around the dais to listen to MiD day group chairman Khalid Ansari's speech on the paper's anniversary.
The chairman recounted the amusing Mid day genesis,u00a0 the paper was started on a "wing and a prayer" he said, adding to his smiling audience, "I did not know if the first copy off the press was to be Mid Day or Mid-Night!" More than three decades later, it was time to hand the baton to the new owners, the Jaagran group, he said. It was a sentimental moment in an afternoon of celebrations.
Soon after though, it was shake-a-leg time with Mid-day loyalists rocking the brunch proving that to turn 31 is fun.
