Anurag Kashyap attended the mid-day Premiere Nights contest and met the winners, greeting them and posing for the cameras at the special screening of his film Raman Raghav 2.0 at PVR Cinemas in Juhu on Thursday evening.

The event was arranged by mid–day Premiere Nights, a contest that gives its readers an opportunity to watch the film with its star cast. When the director was asked about his expectations of audience response to the film, especially after the debacle of Bombay Velvet last year, he said, “I don’t know about the kind of expectations, but people will definitely be shocked because this is unlike anything that I have done before. It’s neither a serial killer film, nor a murder mystery. It is a character study of a psychopath in a shocking manner.”

Why Nawazuddin? “I had no other person in my mind except him and couldn’t have pulled of this film’s character with any other actor. Nawaz has the personality that can be changed into anything. He is like, you fit him anywhere, and he will stand on his own,” said Kashyap, adding that Nawaz’s character Ramanna was “a lot like me”.

About censorship issues related to his last co-production, Udta Punjab, he said, “Cuts were recommended by the Censor Board’s examining committee for this film too. But I didn’t want the cuts and so, approached the Tribunal and they cleared the film.”

Vicky Kaushal

Vicky Kaushal, the other actor in th film, says, “After Masaan and Zubaan, which were my type, 25 days of shooting for this one were the most gruelling period of my life as I had to step out of my comfort zone and enact an intense, impulsive cop who’s addicted to drugs. It was mentally taxing.”
