Mirza Ghalib and Big B share the same stage
Theatre buffs rejoice! As part of the Class ‘n’ Comedy theatre festival, there’s a line up of Hindi, Urdu and Hinglish plays to choose from, and includes three popular plays by Pierrot’s Troupe written and directed by Dr M Sayeed Alam.

It includes plays such as Big B (February 28, 8 pm), KL Saigal (March 1, 7.30 pm) and Ghalib in New Delhi (March 2, 7.30 pm). Big B is based on Premchand’s story Bade Bhai Sahib. KL Saigal features actor Tom Alter narrating the life story of the singer-actor. Ghalib in New Delhi, revolves around Mirza Ghalib’s second birth at his beloved Delhi.
Speaking about the event, Alam says the idea is to bring to the audiences a classic and two comic plays which have been performed all over India and abroad, but not very often in Mumbai. “Together, the three plays offer the best of history, histrionics and humour. The emphasis is on humour. Even KL Saigal, which ostensibly is a serious play, has lots of scope for humour.”
He adds that the message behind the festival is to encourage people to watch plays. “They are worth it and cannot survive without the support from the ticket buying audiences,” he concludes.
