Decomposed body discovered inside deceased's car in Gurgaon; police suspect extramarital affair behind killing

A bouquet, a packet of chocolates and a partially decomposed body - that's what Gurgaon police recovered from a Honda City near the posh Galleria market on Sunday. The body was of the vehicle's owner, 30-year-old businessman Amit Bhardwaj, who had gone missing three days ago. A case of kidnapping had earlier been lodged with the Civil Lines police station.

The discovery of the body created panic in the area. Police sources said that given the state of the corpse, Bhardwaj had been murdered two days ago. Though the family did not receive any ransom call after he went missing the police is probing any financial disputes with business partners as the possible reason behind the murder apart from an extramarital affair. Forensic experts have said that the deceased's throat was slit with a sharp-edged weapon, which suggests that it was the handiwork of professional killers.

"On Sunday morning, police received a call that a body was lying in a Honda City (HR 26 AE 7665) in Galleria market of DLF One. The body was identified to be of Amit Bhardwaj, who ran a courier company in Civil Lines. There was a stench coming from the body and car when we opened it. It seems that he was killed two-three days back," said a senior police officer.

Through registration documents found inside the car, police traced the victim's address and informed his family members. The deceased's relatives informed MiD DAY that he had gone missing from the house on November 11 and after that his mobile phone had also been found switched off. "Since he did not come back, the missing report was converted into a kidnapping case under sections 363 of Indian Penal Code and investigations were taken up. Now that the body has been identified it has become a murder case. His phone call records are being checked to know who he received calls from before going missing," said the officer.

Amit lived at Civil Lines in north Delhi with his joint family, including four brothers. They are presently being questioned by police. The body has been sent for post mortem and further investigations are on.

Cop killed servant

A former police officer who killed his servant after suspecting that he was having an affair with his wife, was caught after having been on the run for close to six months, police said Thursday. The case dates back to June 16 this year, when a body was recovered from the house of Azad Singh, a 1977 batch officer of Delhi police. He was dismissed from service 2004 for anti-department activities, police said. The victim, identified as Ganga, had multiple injuries on his head and body. Interrogation revealed that Ganga had served Azad for almost two decades. However, Azad resented his servant's 'friendly' behaviour towards his wife. The couple also had numerous heated exchanges on the subject.
