Days after MMRDA officials said that they would be seeking clarification from Simplex Infrastructures over a mishap at a Metro site, the authority has taken a U-turn.

MMRDA cannot pull up contractor over mishap

In April, a crane at the construction site of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) Metro rail corridor crashed into the boundary wall of Sarvodaya Hospital. Simplex is the sub-contractor working on the Metro site in Ghatkopar.

The authorities have now informed that they cannot take any action against the firm because it is the Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) and not the MMRDA that appointed the sub-contractor.

Joint Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas said, “After the series of accidents at various construction sites, we have started paying surprise visits to check whether contractors and the sub-contractors are observing safety norms or not. However, we cannot take action against Simplex Infrastructures for the Ghatkopar crane incident, as MMOPL has appointed it as the sub-contractor at the site of metro and not MMRDA. So MMOPL is looking into the matter and would be doing the needful.”u00a0
