After Prakash Maruti Rane, a 35 year-old MNS candidate, was defeated in the municipal elections in Malad, the door of his house in Appa Pada, Malad (east) was set ablaze at 3.15 am on Saturday.

Friday evening an unknown caller abused Rane and threatened him saying that he had let them down and would be taught a lesson, police said.

The number was tracked to a fellow MNS party member. On the same night, the door of an MNS volunteer Rajshreee Datta Shinde's residence was also set ablaze in Malad (E).
