LJP leader Shoaib Iqbal was allegedly attacked by local workers of a different political party; 7 injured in commotion

Delhi MLA Shoaib Iqbal was allegedly injured in a scuffle with some people over the digging work going on in the Turkman Gate area of central Delhi on Wednesday. In the quarrel that went out of control, seven people, including Iqbal and his PSO, were injured.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, when Iqbal visited the area to inaugurate the digging work. "Soon, a group of people came there and objected to the activities. Iqbal then got into a heated argument with them. Iqbal's PSO Gopichand then allegedly opened fire in the air, as the situation went out of control," said a police official.

According to the police, Gopichand fired three rounds of bullets in the air to stop the scuffle. By then, seven people had been injured and they were rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital.u00a0DCP (central) Vivek Kishore confirmed the incident. Seven people were taken for MLC report and a case was registered under appropriate sections of the IPC act.

According to eyewitness Mohammad Irshad: "It was scary. Nearly 50-100 people surrounded the MLA and started throwing stones at him." Another eyewitness, Bobby, said, "The site where the incident took place belongs to one Shahbuddin. His people had come to fight with the MLA. Fortunately, the PSO saved the day as hundreds had started manhandling Iqbal. Most of them were the bad elements of the area."

An eyewitness and a local, under the condition of anonymity, claimed thatu00a0 workers of another party had attacked the MLA, as he belonged to Lok Janshakti Party. "Mohammad Jalal was the mastermind behind the attack. He generally roams around in the colony with his gang. His younger brother has also been injured in the scuffle," he said.
