Onion Minister of IT and Communication Kapil Sibal yesterday lashed out at Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, claiming that the latter’s public relation politics won’t last for long.
Speaking during the conclusion ceremony of a training camp organised by the Congress party in Balewadi, Sibal said that the condition of the state is more or less similar to what is was before Modi became the chief.
“In the 90’s, when Modi wasn’t even in politics, nearly 18,000 villages in the state already had electricity. Even the pakka roads existed in the state and the construction of highways was done with the funds provided by the Centre. Hence, there’s nothing new that Modi has done in the state,” said Sibal.
He added that the ratio of malnutrition and infant deaths has shot up in Gujarat. “The number of people living below the poverty line (BPL) in the state has increased to 30 lakh. However, the number of those BPL was 23 lakh before Modi was made the CM.”
Sibal even made personal attacks on Modi. While Congress has always been criticised of practicing dynasty politics, Sibal, hinting at Modi, said, “You don’t even have dynasty.” Sibal criticized the tenure of the BJP-led NDA government and said the county’s GDP was only 3.5% then, which now increased up to 9%.
