Police investigations have revealed that local gangsters Sharad Mohol and Alok Bhalerao, accused of killing terror suspect Qateel Siddiqui inside Yerawada Jail on June 8, destroyed the drawstring used in the murder by burning it and flushing the charred bits that remained down a toilet.
Mohol and Bhalerao were produced in the court of First Class Magistrate S S Patil yesterday afternoon. Senior Police Inspector Kishor Jadhav of the Yerawada police station said that now Section 201 of the IPC had also been slapped on the accused as they had destroyed key evidence.
“During the investigation it was revealed that both the accused had burnt the drawstring of a pair of shorts after strangling Siddiqui and later flushed it down the toilet,” Jadhav said.
Jadhav, who is heading the investigation, said that though Mohol and Bhalerao were remanded in judicial custody, police investigations were not over yet and they were still looking at the possibility of the involvement of gangs from outside in the murder.
