After their heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Smt RSB Arya Vidya Mandir (AVM) (Juhu) in the District Sports Office (DSO) zonal final recently, Bombay Scottish School (Mahim) managed to turn the tide against the same opposition this time defeating them 2-0 at Azad Maidan yesterday to get a firm grip at the top of Pool 'B' in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) Div I girls inter-school football tournament.

Deniese Periera, a midfielder by trade, scored both the goals to sink the Juhu outfit. She was part of the team that lost the final in Borivli. During that match Deniese injured her ankle which kept her out of action for four weeks. She was determined to return to the fold once again and get her revenge. "I got injured in that game and was keen to take revenge. It feels great to beat them after losing to them earlier. Scoring feels amazing too," Deniese told mid-day.

The game was tightly contested with AVM giving a stern test to Bombay Scottish. The Mahim outfit found it quite hard breaching the AVM defence. It took Deniese's brilliance to break the deadlock in the first half. She took the ball from the centre and ran to the right before unleashing an unstoppable shot.

Arya's try backfires
AVM pushed hard for the equaliser but got punished late on when Deniese scored from inside the box. Adib Kenkre, coach of Bombay Scottish, was elated on not losing twice to the same opposition. He also said the win was crucial, as finishing first in the pool would probably mean avoiding last year's champions Cathedral & John Connon (Fort) in the playoffs. "It was important today to get the win. AVM are a very good team," he added. Bombay Scottish sit first with 18 points from six games and only need to avoid defeat in their last league game to top the table.
