For the first time in the city chess players will gain access to online results for all Mumbai Schools Sports Association-organised chess tournaments. The plan was implemented during the just-concluded inter-school chess tournament held at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex in Dharavi.

MSSA's chess secretary Ram Ahiwale said that the online results will benefit players, their parents and organisers too. "Earlier, the results and pairings were displayed on a notice board, but now they will be available on www.chess-results.com," Ahiwale said.

'Software used worldwide'
Rajababu Gajengi, secretary of Mumbai City District Chess Association (MCDCA), who manages the online results, explained: "The software used is Swiss Manager. Around 190 countries are using this system. It's very useful as results can be uploaded immediately. More than 1500 players can be paired using this software."

Prasad, the father of one of the participants, Kanika Chitnis, hailed the move. "We don't have to wait for somebody to come and tell us about the results and pairings. I can get continuous updates about my child's performance. The final standings are very clear, so there is no confusion now," he said.

Kush, Harshita win titles
Meanwhile, Kush Bhagat of the American School of Bombay (BKC) and Harshita Maheshwari of the Cathedral and John Connon School (Fort) won the boys' and girls' U-10 titles respectively.

Kush and Harshita scored 8.5 and 8 points respectively in the 9 rounds competition to clinch the top honours.
