MSSA honour kids across 20 disciplines at glittering function

The Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) hosted its first award ceremony for children across 20 sporting categories at the Shanmukhananda Hall at Sion yesterday

The Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) hosted its first award ceremony for children across 20 sporting categories at the Shanmukhananda Hall at Sion yesterday.

Children from various schools across Mumbai, who excelled across all disciplines, were given a plaque and gift voucher of Rs 500.


Mimicry and performing artiste Sanjay Keni kicked off the entertainment bit with his voice over of the famous cartoon characters Oggy and the Cockroaches.

He also had the crowd in splits with his impressions of Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Arshad Warsi and Paresh Rawal.

Comedian Johnny Lever too graced the occasion and also offered encouraging words to the kids.

The awards ceremony attracted personalities from the sporting fraternity. India U-19 cricketer Sarfaraz Khan gave away the awards to cricketers.

Former India badminton player Aparna Popat handed the badminton awards, while Indian Super League team Mumbai City FC's forward Abhishek Yadav did the honours for the football category.

MSSA also felicitated former cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar for his contribution to the sport.

Popat praised MSSA's decision to honour the kids: "It's a great initiative. Any type of recognition is important."

Fr Jude Rodrigues, president of MSSA, said: "Our General Secretary, Sebastian Fernandes came up with this idea and I took it up as a challenge. It is a move to encourage the children."
