St Stanislaus High School (Bandra) clinched the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) Ahmed Sailor U-16 League-cum-knockout inter-school hockey tournament as they beat Our Lady of Dolours High School (Marine Lines) 1-0 in the dying moments at MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate yesterday.

Raaquib Merchant scored the only goal in the 48th minute of the match to help the Bandra outfit get their hands on the coveted trophy. Despite the close scoreline, the match was terribly one-sided with Stanislaus making inroads pegging ,Our Lady back.

Our Lady were under tremendous pressure but the Marine Lines team defended admirably. They were resolute and their team organisation on the pitch was exquisite. Stanislaus kept pushing and got innumerable penalty corners but failed to breach the seemingly impenetrable defence.

Stanislaus finally got their break right in the death when Marven Pereira fired a ball in the shooting area, which Raaquib deflected into the goal.

In the Panchgani Old Boys League-cum-knockout tourney for girls U-16 final yesterday, Mary Immaculate (Borivli) beat St Elias (Khar) 3-2 in the tiebreaker after the matched ended goaless in regulation time.
