Abhinav Mukund cracked a brilliant century as India Red registered a well-deserved five-wicket win with 15 balls to spare over India Blue in the NKP Salve Challenger Series opener here yesterday.

A Mukund

Mukund (127) was solid at one end for the India Red in their chase for 275-run target after they got into a precarious position of 15 for two. Captain Gautam Gambhir (11) and Shikhar Dhawan (3) were dismissed cheaply.

Mukund hit 10 fours in his 133-ball innings. The Tamil Nadu opener added 71 with Ashok Maneria (19) for the fourth wicket and 147 with wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha (65 not out).

Saha, who was on the recent tour of England, played a cautious innings as he hit only three boundaries in his unbeaten 65. Mukund was out in the 47th over, but Saha ensured they achieve the target. For India Blue, Pradeep Sangwan was the pick of the bowlers with three for 61 in his nine overs.
