Mumbai: A 37-year old businessman was found dead inside his car at Worli Seaface early on Wednesday morning. A suicide note was also found in the car, in which the man blamed his brother and sister-in-law for pushing him to the brink over a property dispute. Worli police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the couple.

According to Police Inspector Jayendra Sawant of Worli police station, the deceased was identified as Ojesh Shah (37), a Churchgate resident. Shah used to own a general store, and had been involved in a property dispute with his brother and his wife.

Police said fights were a regular feature in the household and Shah was fed up of them.

Around 10.30 pm on Tuesday, Shah left home in his car. When he failed to return even late in the night, his wife called him up but his phone was switched off. She enquired of his whereabouts with several relatives, but in vain. She then called Shah’s close friend, Manish Chheda, asking for help to locate him.

Chheda set out in the night to look for his friend and happened to pass by Worli Seaface, where he found Shah’s car standing near Aarey dairy. Finding the car locked from inside, he enlisted the help of a local, broke the rear window and found Shah inside. Worli police were informed and Chheda took the businessman to Nair Hospital, and later to nearby Wockhardt Hospital, where Shah was declared dead at 5.20 am.

When Worli police started investigations, they found a suicide note and a small box of tablets in the vehicle.
Sawant said, “The note said Shah’s brother and sister-in-law (brother’s wife) are responsible for the suicide that resulted from a property dispute. We have filed an abetment to suicide case against the couple. We are waiting for the doctor’s report to ascertain what Shah actually consumed.”
