According to the police, on Thursday, the girl had gone to purchase chocolate from a local shop near her house in Santosh Nagar in Goregaon East. Police said the arrested accused, identified as Asgar Aslam Sheikh (20) and Ali Sheikh (18), forcibly took her to the jungle area nearby, and molested her.

Police sources said they probably intended to rape her, but she escaped and ran home. She was scared and was not able to reveal anything until her father came home in the evening. She recalled the entire incident to him, after which her father immediately approached the Dindoshi police.

The police registered an FIR and showed her several registers which contained photographs of habitual offenders. She identified one of the accused from it. The police immediately picked up Asgar Aslam Shaikh, who according to the police, has several cases of house-breaking and thefts against him.

During the interrogation, the accused revealed his accomplice’s name and Ali Sheikh was also apprehended. The police booked the accused under the IPC for molestation and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). The accused were produced in court yesterday, and sent to police custody.
