Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray’s rally to protest against the apathy of the education department towards students, has earned criticism not only from the Opposition, but even from Shiv Sena’s alliance partner, BJP. The rally was aimed at BJP leader Vinod Tawde, who heads the state education department. An irked Tawde, in a reaction statement, took a veiled dig at the Thackeray scion. “The government has addressed many of the issues that were raised in the rally. But, is the rally really to highlight those issues or a move to establish leadership ahead of the BMC elections?” he said.

The Opposition didn’t seem impressed either. Nitin Deshmukh, working president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), youth wing said, “Admissions happen between March and June. Thackeray taking out a protest march in October is nothing but an attempt to gain political mileage before the civic polls.” The party, however, was prompt in its defence. “In March last year, CM Devendra Fadnavis had given an assurance about making the admission process 100 per cent online. But, many students still continue running from pillar to post. Our protest is for such students,” said Varun Sardesai, spokesperson, Yuva Sena.
