Mumbai: Army jawan's attempt to juggle two women lands him in jail

An army jawan’s plan to ditch a female constable, whom he was in a relationship with, to go ahead with his arranged marriage with a teacher failed spectacularly when he ended up marrying the constable, lying to the teacher and getting himself and his parents thrown in prison.

The police said the jawan, Ananda Sukhdev Bodhak, was in a relationship with the constable and was supposed to have an arranged marriage with the teacher. He wanted to end the relationship with his lover ahead of the marriage, slated for May 7.

Bodhak who is a resident of Khopoli and had come home on leave however, feared the consequences of ditching a police constable and ended up marrying her on May 4.

Obvious lie
Bodhak then called his second wife-to-be a teacher and a resident of Ulhasnagar on May 5 and told her that they would have to postpone the marriage as he had been asked to leave for the border immediately.

The teacher and her sister, however, suspected Bodhak was lying about the emergency, “since no war was on” and visited his house in Khopoli. They asked his neighbours and found out that he had got married on May 4.

They then approached the Vitthalwadi police in Kalyan and got him arrested for cheating. “Bodhak was already in a relationship with the female police constable but wanted to ditch her and carry on with his arranged marriage with the teacher from Ulhasnagar.

But, when he realised it would be difficult to leave the police constable as she could complain against him, he married her on May 4 and then told the teacher that he had been called to the border immediately,” said a police official.

“The teacher, who had been orphaned as a child, had done all the preparations for the marriage. She had done all the shopping with her sister and had even booked a marriage hall,” said Vijay Dolas, senior police inspector of Vitthalwadi police station. The police have arrested the army jawan, his father, Sukhdev, and mother, Indumati.
