Mumbai: An auto driver today returned a bag containing gold jewellery worth over Rs 1 lakh to the owner, police said.

One Sanjana Gupta, a resident of Byculla, forgot her bag containing gold jewellery in an autorickshaw at Borivali Railway station (East) this evening, a senior police official said.

After finding the bag inside the auto, the driver Kailash Yadav (55) went to Kasturba Marg police station. He helped police to return the bag to the owner, the official said.

The bag contained a gold 'mangalsutra', gold chain and two gold rings, worth approximately Rs 1.3 lakh, he said.

Yadav was felicitated by Kasturba Marg police station senior police inspector Satishrao Rane for his "honest" act.

Sanjana said, "It was my mistake, I had forgotten the bag after alighting from the auto. I am thankful to the driver for returning it."
