Mumbai snagged the top spots in the Chartered Accountancy (CA) final-level exams, the results of which were declared on Tuesday. Raj Sheth from Dombivli has topped the country with 630 marks out of 800, while Krishna Gupta from Goregaon stood third with a score of 601 marks out of 800.

The topper
22-year-old Sheth is currently pursuing his CA articleship at SJ Bajaria and Company in Ghatkopar. He was working there even on Tuesday, when the CA results were declared. "I will continue to work with established companies before I start anything on my own, as experience is very important," said Sheth who is interested in the finance sector.

"Even though I could have entered finance sector through any other degree such as an MBA, I wanted to pursue CA as it is my passion, since I started college. CAs have monopoly in audit and taxation. Even as I join the finance sector, this knowledge is only going to be an advantage," he added.

Sheth feels he's at a good juncture currently as India's economy is at a major turning point. "GST is a landmark revolution for India's economy, which has been implemented rather late. But this for sure is going to increase the demand for CAs," he said.

Ranking third
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Gupta is the son of a CA. Naturally, his father was his biggest inspiration. "It is because of his expert help that I was able to clear all levels of the CA exam in the first attempt itself,"
he said.

Gupta says was surprised when he saw the result, "I was sure of clearing and getting a rank, but ranking in top three is really delightful."

Gupta is now looking for a job in the consulting or investment banking industry. "There is no concrete game-plan yet, but I will continue my job as it will allow me to be well groomed and get greater exposure and guidance from experts," said Gupta.
