Promising Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw is on a roll. Yesterday, at Una in Himachal Pradesh, the West Zone captain scored his third century of the Vinoo Mankad under-19 tournament against North.

Prithvi's 205-run opening stand with Jyotsnil Singh (84) helped West Zone defeat their opponents by six wickets to register their second win in the competition.

Chasing 303 for victory, West started attacking the opposition bowling right from the start. In the process Shaw reached his three-figure mark off just 68 balls. However, he fell prey to Anmolpreet Singh's full-length delivery which caused him to hole out to the covers where DB Rangi was stationed.

Shaw's 126 was laced with 22 boundaries during his 95-ball stay at the crease, while Baroda batsman Jyotsnil hit 11 fours in his 101-ball knock. West Zone reached the target in 46.3 overs.

"As we needed to chase 303, it was important for us to get a good start. Our coach Vinod Raghavan sir guided me while charting out a plan to chase the target convincingly. I wanted to take advantage of the power play, so I went for my shots and it worked very nicely," Shaw told mid-day from Una yesterday.

Shaw, who is in terrific form, has already registered two centuries against Gujarat (113 in 123 balls) and Maharashtra (113 in 87).

In addition, he scored a quick-fire 37-ball 51 runs against Saurashtra in the West Zone U-19 tournament last month.

Earlier, after losing the toss, North Zone opener Rangi (118 runs in 107 balls) and Abhishek Sharma (62 runs in 56 balls) were instrumental in helping their side notch up 302. West Zone bowlers IA Sayed and Diprajsinh Chudasama claimed three wickets each.

West Zone beat Central Zone by 10 runs in the opening game on Monday and now have to face the challenge from South Zone in the next game on Friday.
