Mumbai crime: Auto driver promises beautician a job, rapes her

A 19-year-old aspiring beautician was raped by an auto rickshaw driver on the pretext of getting her a job in a beauty parlour. The survivor was led to the auto driver by a female friend, whom she had approached for help.

Three auto drivers and the survivor's friend have been arrested in the case. The accused have been identified as Aamir Khan (20), Deepak Patil (34) and Farooq Shaikh (29), all auto drivers, and Naseem Banu Khan (23), the survivor's friend.

An officer from Trombay police station said, “The survivor had done some beauty courses after passing out from Std XII. After looking for a job for months, she approached her neighbour and friend Naseem Khan, who said it would be easy to get her one.”

On Wednesday, Naseem told the survivor that there was vacancy in a Kurla-based beauty parlour and took her to the area.

The duo kept roaming in the areas of Kurla and Chembur for the whole day as Naseem said she was waiting for a call from her parlour contact.

In the evening, she took to the survivor to meet Patil and Shaikh in Chembur and they decided to go to Aamir Khan’s residence in Cheetah Camp, Trombay, after 9pm.

“After spending some time, Naseem left Khan’s house on the pretext that her mobile battery was low. She asked the survivor to stay and said the three auto drivers would get her a good job. In some time, Patil and Shaikh also left the house. Khan took advantage of the situation and raped her,” the officer added.

Family worried
Since the survivor was missing the whole day, her family registered a missing case with the Trombay police.

However, when the survivor came back on Thursday morning, she narrated the ordeal to her family. A rape complaint was filed and the four accused were arrested.
