The Mumbai crime branch has been conducting an anti-tobacco drive since the past two days and has found more than 60 tobacco sellers within 100 yards of an academic institution.
Out of this, a little more than 30 shopkeepers have licenses; so yesterday the police department had shot a letter to the BMC apprising them of all these shops and asking them that how could the civic body issue licenses.

"We have submitted the report to BMC and are awaiting their reply. Next week, we would be organising meetings of all Child Welfare Officers from 93 police stations, FDA officer, BMC officers and Aarogya officers among others, to discuss ways to take this drive ahead further," said Pravin Patil, DCP.
Under Section 6B of COTPA ACT, no tobacco seller should be found within 100 yards of a school or a college. The defaulter would be fined R200 and the license would be revoked.
