The Kandivli police has arrested the 25-year-old man identified as Aslam Faujdar for kidnapping the boy. The accused worked as a waiter at a hotel owned by the victim’s father Kafil Jakir. Jakir owed Rs 45,000 to Faujdar and after much coaxing when he refused to pay up, the latter decided to recover the money by kidnapping his son and demanding ransom.

On further investigation, the cops learnt that Faujdar had been missing since January 24. The informers intimated the police that on the day of the disappearance, the accused was seen in Ganesh Nagar area, in the same locality where Jakir and his family resided. This was enough for the police to launch a search for Faujdar, who had by then fled to his native village in Uttar Pradesh.

“Later the Kandivli police, with the help of the local cops, caught the accused from the India-Nepal border and rescued the boy,” added the officer.

Deputy commissioner of police Balsingh Rajput (zone11) said, “On January 23, after an altercation Faujdar devised a plan and kidnapped Jakir’s son.”

The accused has been booked under IPC section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and put on police remand.
