Mumbai crime: Driver raped 8-yr-old stepdaughter for a year

The police have arrested a 22-year-old driver for raping his 8-year-old stepdaughter for the past one year. The accused (name withheld), a driver with a private company, had married the girl’s mother, who works as a domestic help, in 2006, after her previous marriage did not work out. The mother and daughter had been living with the accused since then.

On Friday, the 8-year-old told her mother about being repeatedly raped by the accused. “The survivor said he used to shut the door and windows and play loud music when he raped her so that no one would find out about it.

She said that the accused had threatened to harm her mother, which is why she had not spoken about the incident till Friday,” said an official from the Wadala Truck Terminal police station, where the mother lodged a complaint yesterday.

“We arrested the accused an hour after the complaint was lodged,” added the official. The accused has been booked under Sections 376 (2) (f) (Committing rape on a woman when she is under twelve years of age), 377 (Unnatural offences), 506 (2) (Criminal intimidation) and others of the Indian Penal Code as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
