Gang of robbers would get people to give their cars on rent to their travel firm and later sell or mortgage these cars; two associates on the run

Be careful about renting out your cars to make an extra buck. The Nalasopara police have arrested a gang of robbers who used to take cars from people on the pretext of renting them out to corporates, but later either mortgaging or selling them. The incident came to light when a 37-year-old woman became the victim of this fraud. The woman had given her car to the travel company of the accused so that they could rent it out, but they sold it instead. She registered a complaint with the Nalasopara police station on December 30 last year. Last week, they arrested two men. Officers managed to recover more than 40 cars from the accused.

The arrested accused have been identified as Prashant Pramod Bhosle, 39, and Ashish Gangaram Pujari, 29. Two other accused, associates of the arrested men, are Kiran Vallabh Gala, 23, and Nikhil Maturadas Majethiya, 55. They are wanted in the case. According to police sources, these accused were running tour and travel firms in Vasai, Virar and Nalasopara areas. Gala runs a travel office under the name Raiders Point in Nalasopara (West). The victim from Vasai, Jyotsna Prashant Rumao, had met him and given her Hyundai Accent on rent to Gala.
For two-three months, Gala paid her the monthly rent, but later stopped. Despite repeated complaints, Gala neither paid the rent nor returned the car. During enquiry, it was revealed that like Rumao, hundreds of other people had kept their vehicles with Gala and Majethiya travels. Bosle and Pujari revealed that they sold many of the cars and kept several cars on mortgage and took huge loans. Further investigation continues. "We have booked and arrested the two accused and they have been remanded in police custody," said inspector Suhas Kamble of Nalasopara police station."
