A 24-year-old youth was attacked with acid by an unidentified man in his own residence, while he was sleeping. The victim has been identified as Rahul Deepak Jinval and works as a bouncer at events. The accused arrived at his residence at BMC Colony in Mulund around 9 am yesterday, after which he flung acid at Jinval’s face before fleeing the spot.

Jinval’s mother was at home at the time of the attack, but was working in the kitchen. “The victim screamed after he was attacked, as he was in unbearable pain from the acid. His mother, who was working in the kitchen, rushed out and realised what had happened,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Vasant Tajne (Mulund division).

“After my son yelled, I ran outside. I saw what had happened and caught a fleeting glimpse of a man wearing a white shirt and black pants running out,” said Jinval’s mother Shakuntala, adding that the attacker had long hair.

“I couldn’t see the man’s face as he was running away and had his back towards me. After the incident, we took my son to Agarwal Hospital, and were referred to Sion Hospital but we chose to take him to a private hospital in Mulund,” said Shakuntala in her statement.

Jinval has injured his eyes and has burn marks on his body. Cops are yet to record his statement, but are investigating if any personal enmity could have been the reason behind the attack. Police have booked the unidentified accused under Section 326 (A)(voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) under the Indian Penal Code. u00a0
