Mumbai crime: Man gropes foreigner, nabbed by alert cops
A 30-year-old man allegedly molested a 24-year-old UK national while she was collecting a parcel from a restaurant in Lokhandwala yesterday.
The incident occurred when the victim stepped out of an auto rickshaw, while two of her female friends were still seated in the vehicle.
The accused, identified as Gaurav Gupta, works as a salesman for a farsan company. Gupta groped the victim while she was waiting to collect her parcel, and ran from the spot. The victim’s screams alerted the people around her.
“By the time, the woman realised what was happening, the man had already started to run. The woman then raised an alarm,” said Ravindra Patil, assistant police inspector at Oshiwara police station.
Hearing the woman’s screams, locals in the area started chasing the accused, who had by then started sprinting.”
Three constables who were on duty near Mega Mall were alerted by the chaos at the restaurant.
Two of the constables then chased the accused and nabbed him. Police claim that the women are students of Mumbai University, and also take up part-time roles in Bollywood films. They reside in a flat in Lokhandwala.
Gupta, who is a resident of Mira Road, has been arrested on molestation charges.
