The accused said he needs the money to set up an exhibition in the Make in India event and promised to return the sum after 15 days of the event
Police is on the look out for a 33-year-old man who has been accused of cheating a woman on a matrimonial website. The 31-year-old victim has alleged that the man had sent her a request on the matrimonial website in December last year and from then on, the interactions started.
The accused identified as Dilip Rajput posed as a millionaire and claimed to run real estate businesses in Dubai and Indore. He further claimed to the woman that he holds a MBA degree and lives in a plush apartment in Juhu. All these might have impressed the victim, who is a doctor and has her own clinic in Marve area of Malad.
“Once, Rajput paid her a surprise visit by arriving at her clinic in an Audi car. He also told the woman of his acquaintances in Bollywood and other industries,” said an officer of Malad police station.
After the initial interactions, their chats increased and eventually the complainant fell in love with Rajput and expressed her desire to marry him. The woman realised that she has been cheated when Rajput did not return Rs 13 lakhs that he took from her.
“He told her that he wants to take part in the Make in India event that was held in Bandra-Kurla Complex (from February 13-18) and for that he requires Rs 13 lakhs. He promised to return the money after 15 days of the event. She arranged for the money,” said a police officer, on condition of anonymity.
After 15 days, when she called Rajput up, he avoided those and also told her that he doesn’t know her. The woman then approached police. “We have registered a case of cheating against Rajput and are investigating the case,” said Sudhir Mahadik, senior inspector of Malad police station.
