Mumbai crime: Man struck with sickle for demanding share in loot

A man was attacked with a sickle and paver blocks after he demanded a share from three men who found a bag full of valuables in a train. Nirmal Nagar police arrested the trio for assaulting their friend. According to the police, the victim, Sajid Qureshi, had demanded a share in the bag of valuables found by the accused, threatening to inform the police if they didn’t agree.

On Tuesday, the three accused, Salim Afzal Khan, Iliyaz Langada and Zuber Asla Sheikh, found a leather bag in an AC coach of an empty train at Bandra terminus.

Inside the bag, there were gold and silver ornaments, which they took and left the place. Qureshi found out about the bag and demanded a share in the loot.

Police officials said that the trio was afraid that Qureshi might approach the cops anyway, and decided to kill him.

Afraid that he would tell on them anyway, the three called him near Bandra Terminus, and attacked him with a sickle and paver blocks

On Wednesday, they called him near Bandra Terminus and after a heated argument, one hit him with a sickle while the other two struck him with paver blocks on his head, and the trio fled.

A few passers-by took him to Bhabha Hospital and informed the police. Qureshi is currently recuperating at KEM Hospital and cops informed that his condition is critical.

The initial search team tried to nab the accused, but the trio would slip away from the railway yard to the car shed, through train bogies

Nirmal Nagar police began their search operation, and they found that the accused were hiding around the railway yard and car-shed near Bandra Terminus. The initial search team, however, was unable to nab the three, as they were quite familiar with the area and would slip away from the railway yard to the car shed by going through train coaches.

Finally, the search team was expanded to 25 cops, who cordoned off the area from Bandra to Santacruz and arrested the accused within five hours.

“We have recovered the leather bag with valuables. They have been charged under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) under the IPC, and are remanded in custody,” said a police officer.
