Mumbai Crime: MD of software company held for raping assistant manager

A 36-year-old Managing Director (MD) of a software company has been arrested by the Kasturba Marg Police for allegedly raping his assistant manager.

The accused allegedly raped the woman several times, threatening her of uploading a video clip on the internet, which he shot in 2009 when he raped her the first time inside his office cabin.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sagar Joshi, while the complaint in the case is a 38-year-old married woman, who also has children. The victim was associated with the firm since 2009 when the company had their office in Borivli (E) in a mall, which was later shifted to Mira Road.

According to statement given by the victim to the Kasturba Marg Police, in 2009, her MD once asked her to come inside his cabin, where he offer her a cup of coffee. She had that, and later become unconscious. After a few hours, when she become conscious, she came to know that she was raped after Joshi showed her the video clip which he shot during the incident.

Later, the alleged accused began blackmailing her by showing the video clip and threatening that if she did not maintain physical relations with him, he will upload the clip on the internet. The victim says she was scared, and hence did what the accused asked her to.

From 2009 to 2011, he raped her several times. During that period, she tried to leave the job, but the accused did not allow her to do so. He threatened her that she will have to work in his company till he wants. The victim’s husband was mostly away from home due to his work.

In August this year, the victim left the job and decided not to go to work again. But, the accused again began threatening her. When Joshi’s threat calls began increasing by the day, she became very upset. Her husband noticed the same, and asked her what the matter was. The victim broke down, and narrated the entire ordeal to her husband, who then took her to the police station and lodged an FIR.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 12, M Ramkumar, confirmed the case and said, “We have arrested the alleged accused under section 328, 376, 385, 406 and 506 (II). He was produced before the court and sent to police custody. Further investigations are on.”
