On Friday, the Crime Branch arre-sted Ajay Pandit for the murder of gangster Vijay Pujari alias Batta from Tata Colony in Bandra Kurla Complex.

On August 1, 2013, Pandit, along with main accused Rahul Sharma and members of his gang including Magic, Viren Thakur, Subhash Shukla, had killed gangster Vijay Pujari at Sharada Bar in Khar. Sharma, the mastermind, is yet to be arrested.

Pandit, who was absconding for the past two years, used to extort money from hotel owners and businessmen.

A police officer said, “After killing gangster Batta in 2013, Pandit gained popularity and was much feared. Several youngsters, including college kids, joined his gang.”

The police laid a trap after they received a tip off about his visit. “Pistols and live bullets were recovered from him. He has confessed to the murder and extortion cases,” said another police officer.
