The duo, Akbar Lahri and Hasin Ansari, had robbed a man of cash last week, but Lahri gave Ansari only Rs 500 from the booty.

They had an argument over unequal sharing of the cash, and in a fit of rage, Lahri stabbed Ansari in his back with a knife. Ansari snatched the knife and stabbed him 18 times.

On Monday at 7.30 pm, the locals of Maharashtra Nagar compound informed Deonar police that they had found a dead body and an injured man in the nearby bushes.

Wrong lead
Assistant police inspector Vijay Amberke from Deonar police station said, “We found the dead body of Lahri. Ansari, too, was lying at the spot, badly injured. A case based on Ansari’s statement, which turned out to be false, was registered.

According to his statement, the two were playing in the ground when two unknown men tried to rob Lahri’s cell phone. They stabbed him when he resisted.”

When the cops recreated the crime scene, they found some discrepancies in Ansari’s statement and interrogated a watchman who was at the crime stop.

“Ansari later confessed to the crime,” added Amberke. The accused has been booked under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC. He will be produced in holiday court tomorrow.
