The accused assaulted and tried to rape the woman after she rejected his proposal for marriage
In a shocking incident in the vicinity of Versova, a 25-year-old woman was stripped and sexually assaulted by her former employer at a crowded area near Zohar Garden near Yari Road. The Versova police have arrested the employer Tarun Mitro (32) for attempt to rape, assault and for outraging the modesty of a woman.
As per police sources, the victim had been working for the accused a couple of months back. But Mitro used to pass lewd comments and approach her for sexual favours. “Mitro had developed a liking for the victim and he also proposed marriage. But after the victim spurned his advances, he tried to force himself upon her.
This made her quit her job abruptly,” says a source. Subsequently, Mitro went hunting for his former employee and accosted her at the public garden near Yari Road where she was taking a morning walk on March 30. As per the victim’s statement to the Versova Police, Mitro broke into an argument, trying to force her to get married to him.
After that, he started abusing her. The victim tried to flee, but Mitro started stripping her in public, sexually assaulted her, and tried to pull her out of the garden. The victim then clamoured for help, alerting the watchman and a few passers-by. Mitro then scaled the short wall of the garden and escaped.
After an FIR was filed at Versova police station, the cops launched a manhunt for Mitro, who had been missing for three days after the incident. On April 1, the police team managed to nab Mitro from his mobile phone record. The accused is now in police custody.
