Mumbai: A teen girl was stabbed to death in the Tagore Nagar area of Vikhroli east on Friday. The accused was a 23-year-old man Haroon Shaikh, who stabbed the victim Afsana Ahmad several times with a knife.

According to the police officials the accused, a Govandi resident, worked as a driver in the same area where Ahmad lived in. Though cops are yet to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder, they suspect that refusal to marriage proposal by the victim may have led to the killing.

An officer from Vikhroli police station said, "The case has been registered under section 302 (punishment for murder) and the accused has been arrested. Shaikh was in love with the deceased and had recently proposed her for marriage and had arrived at Ahmad's residence with a marriage proposal along with his parents."

The body has been sent to Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar for postmortem.
