A 37-year-old man, whose parents worked for the navy, killed his younger sister, by slitting her throat, and constantly stabbing her. The shocking incident occurred at around 5 pm Tuesday, at their residence in Colaba’s Old Navy Nagar.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the man, who was unemployed, also attacked his mother, when she tried to protect her daughter. She suffered deep cuts, but is said to be out of danger. Unfortunately, the victim died on the spot.

The accused is on the run, and has been identified as Shayam Naidu. Sources in the navy told Mumbai Mirror that the mother constantly fought with Shayam after her daughter, Rajshree, 34, returned to live with them after her marriage collapsed.

“He feared his mother would will the property to her daughter, and that resulted in frequent fights between them. We don’t exactly know the position Shayam’s father held at the navy, but his mother, P Salla, was given the job after his death. She ran the house using the pension money she received for herself and in the name of her late husband. The neighbours have said that Shayam’s unemployment was a huge concern for her,” a source from Colaba Police Station told Mumbai Mirror.

After the murder, the navy is said to have prevented the media from accessing the building where the incident occurred. Rajshree’s body was sent for postmortem at the GT Hospital.
