Mumbai: Day after derailment, WR commuters face harrowing time

It started as a woeful Wednesday morning for lakhs of Western Railway (WR) commuters as the situation between Andheri and Vile Parle continued to remain pathetic.

While the WR authorities were busy in restoration - which is expected to be on track by 9am - train services suffered severely.

"We are trying our best to rectify and start the services by 9 am," said a WR official.

In the morning, trains were running late by 45 minutes or more, and the crowd began swelling inside trains and platforms as the peak hours started.

The authorities not only had to remove the 7 derailed coaches but also replace the overhead cables, its metal frames, and uprooted tracks.

During the night, they undertook a 2-hour block, during which all services were shut.
