Mumbai: Deaf-mute minor reveals years of abuse through sketches

A deaf, mute minor, who had been abused by a eunuch and his friends for four years, finally managed to convey the agony he was going through to his parents, after he drew two sketches to describe what was happening. The Nehru Nagar police arrested the eunuch for abusing the 17-year-old deaf and mute boy since four years. Police said that the accused had even pimped out the victim to his friends for money. The Nehru Nagar police have registered an FIR against three eunuchs in the matter.

According to the statement of the survivor’s parents to the police, in 2012, the accused, identified as Ganesh Shinde (34), a moneylender by profession, called their son to his house and offered him drinks. They stay in the same area. Shinde then forced himself on the victim while the latter was under the influence of alcohol.

'He was sedated'
“It was the beginning of the abuse. Thereafter they abused my son on several occasions. They sedated him by offering him marijuana and other tablets. They also gave him sexual performance enhancing drugs. They threatened him at knife point and said that if he refused to have sex with them, they would castrate him,” said the survivor’s father.

He added, “At times, he was asked to have sex with more than two to three eunuchs. He was barely 13-years-old then.”

According to the police, the abuse went on for four long years. As the survivor was deaf and mute, and a child, he feared opening up to his family. On August 16, he was missing from home for the entire day. When the family was about to register a missing complaint, he returned home. That day, too, he had gone with Shinde, said the police.

Sketches describe his agony
On Monday afternoon, the survivor, who is in Std VII, gathered courage and drew the sketches. He then handed over the papers to his parents and revealed the abuse that he went through. “I was aghast. I even rushed to Shinde’s house to confront him but he was not at home. We then visited the police station and registered a complaint against Shinde and his associates,” the survivor’s father added.

The Nehru Nagar police has registered an FIR in the matter against three eunuchs, of whom Shinde has been arrested, while the rest are still absconding. The victim was taken for a medical examination and the reports are awaited, police said.

Senior Police Inspector Pramod Poparde of Nehru Nagar police station said, “We have registered the complaint under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4 and 8 of the POCSO Act. Shinde was produced before the Kurla metropolitan magistrate court and was remanded in police custody till September 3.” Police said that Shinde is married to another eunuch but the latter is not involved in the case.
