After sporting a design by Indian designer couple Falguni and Shane Peacock, Hips Don’t Lie hit-maker, Shakira, was spotted in a dress created by Mumbai-based designer Khushali Kumar at the season premiere of TV reality talent show, The Voice, on March 1.

Shakira who returned to the show as a judge after a sabbatical, looked stunning in a gunmetal short dress picked for her by styling duo Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn from Kumar’s Los Angeles store.


“This episode was very important for Shakira since it was her comeback to the show, so what she wore had to be spectacular. I’m glad that she made her entry wearing my creation,” says the 31-year-old designer, who is the daughter of T-series’ founder Gulshan Kumar.

Explaining the design and the fabrics and textures used, Kumar revealed that the dress is a unique combination of edgy metallic detailing with cascading lace. “The dress is glamourous, which is what was needed for Shakira’s look,” adds the designer, who started her line in 2012.

Kumar’s collections, that retail from over 75 stores, 50 being in USA and others scattered across Paris, London and Middle East Asia. In the past, international celebrities including Leann Rimes, Ashanti, Carmen Electra And Emily Osment have been spotted in her lines. Kumar also styled Justin Bieber in his video, Wait For A Minute.
