The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce
Roshan's got his White House pic!
Theatre actor and former television anchor, Roshan Abbas, is on a US trip, witnessing the country in transition with Donald Trump about to take over its reins.
As he passed by Trump Tower, the 68-storey skyscraper in New York’s Manhattan that has an enormous twin coming up in Mumbai by the same name, Abbas took an impromptu decision.
He drove to Washington to see the White House before it got ‘Trumped.’ Enjoying his day in DC, Abbas also echoed the hopes of many crestfallen Democrat supporters (and probably went a step further), wishing Michelle Obama would become President — of the world. Well, we leave it to Abbas to tell us what that would mean.
Madame Tussauds in Delhi
Delhi may be short on celebrity count when compared with Mumbai but the capital can now flaunt life-like wax figures of personalities from Bollywood, Hollywood, sports and politics.
Merlin Entertainments, a leading visitor attraction operator, announced its first foray into the Indian market yesterday, with the launch of its latest offering — Madame Tussauds, Delhi. World-renowned for over 250 years for the creation of wax statues, Madame Tussauds will pay homage to celebrities at the Delhi venue, Regal Cinema at Connaught Place, beginning mid-2017. With closer access, guests will be encouraged to interact with their favourite personalities in immersive environments.

They will be able to give a speech with Prime Minster Narendra Modi, take a selfie with Kim Kardashian and test their batting skills with cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar. John Jakobsen, chief new openings officer of the operator, said, “Ever since we introduced Amitabh Bachchan as the first Bollywood figure in Madame Tussauds, London, in 2000, we have seen how the museum appeals to the Indian consumer. So, having a permanent attraction in the heart of the country’s capital made perfect sense for the evolution of the Madame Tussauds story.”
Look who caught Genelia's eye
Actress Genelia D’Souza Deshmukh interacts with a mother at the launch of a mom and baby wellness centre in Santacruz yesterday.
In the first week of November, Indian artist Bhupen Khakhar’s modern piece titled, Man in Pub, made it to our pages as it was to lead the Bonhams’ Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art sale.
Man in Pub by Bhupen Khakhar
Touted as on of his most celebrated pieces, which was executed during a trip to the UK in 1979, it sold for £263,000 at the art sale two days ago in London. This places it among the top five Khakhar works to be sold at an auction. It is an example of the artist’s facility for presenting vulnerable intimacy with bold, colourful flair.
Syed Raza’s Paysage Nocturne sold for £48,750 and Francis Souza’s English Countryside made £60,000. A striking work by the Pakistan artist Ismail Gulgee, Untitled (Camels) made £62,500.
Happy birthday, brother
It was actor-director Sajid Khan’s birthday yesterday and Farah Khan made sure she spread some sisterly cheer on Twitter.
“Happy birthday to my brother...I will always pick u up if u fall… after I’ve finished laughing,” she wrote, assuring Sajid that it was only a joke. A little later in the day, she also posted a blast from the past (right), remembering their humbler days. Never hurts to stay grounded, after all.
Swimming for a cause
In a unique endeavour, The Sea Hawks, an open-water endurance swim team, will attempt to break the world record for the longest distance open-water swimming in relay. Six swimmers will dive into the sea from the Gateway of India on November 26 and aim to reach Mangalore by December 10, after covering a distance of 1,000 kilometres.
The current world record is of 684.75 kilometres. “This is our tribute to the martyrs and victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and the recent attacks at Uri and Pathankot, and to the brave heroes of the Indian Armed Forces, who have been fighting terror,” says wing commander Paramvir Singh, who leads the team. Watch this space for updates on the record.
