The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Cyberworld reality bites
While 40% of daily speech is taken up with self disclosure — telling others how we feel or what we think about something — when we go online the amount of self disclosure doubles to 80%.

These and several other fascinating bytes are revealed in The Cyber Effect by Dr Mary Aiken. The book has opened to rave reviews in the UK, and we’ll be keeping you posted on how this one turns out when we manage to get a copy. Stay online. Or not?

Bend it like Emraan

We can’t quite figure what is it that’s making actor Emraan Hashmi duck for cover at a fashion do in a five-star in central Mumbai. Bouquets or brickbats, we’re not saying; nevertheless, his expression is priceless.

Hic! India on my plate
Here’s some good news for the working folk in Kala Ghoda precinct. Enjoy a post-work drink session or a quick lunch at a new resto-bar, Hitchki (meaning: hiccups), which will open doors on Dr VB Gandhi Marg stretch next week.

With a contemporary chic setting, the menu offers a smorgasbord of regional Indian flavours with modern touches. Quite a few dishes piqued our interest (and tastebuds). These include galangal-lemongrass flavoured chaas, Oats and Poha Thalipeeth, Bacon Pancake Lasagna, Rasam Minestrone soup, Patrani Chilli Poppers, Chicken Recheado.

Tamale along with main course options like Ghee Rice with Roast Mangalorean Chicken and Laksa Prawns Biryani. And we’re told there’s a jukebox at the venue too. Though we’ll wait for a taste test, a nostalgia trip in this artsy SoBo precinct sounds enticing.

Baby’s day out
What do children and rock have in common? If performance venue Hard Rock Cafe is to be believed, everything! They’ve introduced a new venture called Baby Loves Rock, keeping aside few hours every Saturday to celebrate any event related to your kid. Think activities like passing the parcel, musical chairs, magic shows and the works.

There are also kid-friendly Continental and Indian munchies like Potato Pops, Pizza, Pasta, Noodles and Nuggets and a chocolate fountain. Parents, you can retire to the bar with a drink, safe in the knowledge that your kid will be well-occupied all afternoon. Cool to be a kid in these times, no?

It's a pokemon's world
The Pokémon mania, which we had earlier dismissed as a fad, refuses to die down. While browsing on Facebook this diarist stumbled upon an interesting page — Pokémon of Bombay. Modelled on Humans of New York and our very own Humans of Bombay, this page aims to “hear the stories of the pokémon roaming the streets of Mumbai.”

If your interest is the least bit piqued, check out the page and say hello to Staryu (a starfish-shaped pokémon), who works as a fitness trainer at the All Day Leg Day gym, or the Horsea who thinks it is Taylor Swift. Weird or wonderful? We can’t decide.

Padma Patil will be here
Ther’s some more news for Potter fans. Afshan Azad, better known as the actress who plays Padma Patil in the Harry Potter movies, will be in Hyderabad to attend Comic Con this September.

A far cry from her plaited schoolgirl avatar, the pouty British-born Bangladeshi actress is sure to woo Potter fans on her first visit to India. Her session, we hear, will see her talk about her work and interact with fans. Now, when are we getting the hot-as-hell Mathew Lewis or the charming Emma Watson here for an event?
