And now, veggie holidays are here
Before you think this has something to do with holidays that help you control your carbon footprint or are a pointer to hit the trail with an eco-friendly holiday, we’ll burst the bubble. It’s a fad that’s gaining increasing bandwidth among tour operators — veggie-only getaways are being pitched to families as ‘pure vegetarian properties.’ Talk about smart packaging for the ever-picky holiday junta.

Woofs, meows and some blessings, please
Got a pet? Want a blessing? Head to the Blessing of Pets annual ceremony held by parish priest, Fr Joe D’Souza this Sunday. The priest, who has been blessing pets for the past 20 years, will give his blessing at 11 am at St John The Evangelist Church at Ballard Estate.

He says, “People bring dogs, cats, bulbuls, fish, tortoise, all kinds of pets. Some bring their pets who are ill, with cancer, or have cardiac disease.” The priest applies holy water and blesses the pets. Owners find solace from seeing their suffering pets being blessed while healthy pet owners are happy.

Tanuja’s tales from UP
When word is out about a book to be written by an articulate filmmaker, we sit up and take notice. Tanuja Chandra will publish a collection of stories, titled Tales of Uttar Pradesh that will celebrate the corners and contours of its small towns.

The read will be a mix of fact and fiction, and will include funny, dramatic tales that have travelled down the generations to the author in the great, oral tradition of Indian culture. The gifted filmmaker was looking at writing this collection for a while.

“As a kid, I heard them from my parents, mausis, buas and chachas. They stayed with me over the years but I never felt quite ready to put words down on paper.” We’re looking forward to reading about the family and the rest in this quirky collection that will be out in March 2017.

Khan-daan selfie time

The Khan family was in full attendance at a shoot for (left, seated) Zarine Khan’s upcoming TV food show at a Goregaon studio last evening. (Second from left) Daughter-in-law Malaika Parekh, daughters Simone Arora, Farah Ali Khan and Sussanne Khan pose for the perfect selfie.

Irrfan Khan now keeps esteemed company
We loved this photo that Indian actor Irrfan tweeted recently along with the cast of Ron Howard’s next production based on Dan Brown’s Inferno. He tweeted, “Seems we all r getting clicked for different photographs.”

The soon-to-release film is another thrilling adventure of Professor Robert Langdon played by Tom Hanks that also features Omar Sy and Felicity Jones. We’re waiting for this one to see Mr Khan’s acting chops against the likes of Hanks and Sy.

Cheer for the arts
Here’s some news that will thrill the arts fraternity in the city. Sanjna Kapoor and Sameera Iyengar’s Junoon announced the launch of Tapestry, an intensive arts workshop in November.

The intent is to instill a cross-pollination of ideas across genres The sessions will include a range of activities like lecture demos, theatre rehearsals and walking tours led by experts like Kiran Nagarkar, Gieve Patel, Arundhathi Subramanian, Rafique Baghdadi, mid-day columnist Paromita Vohra and Sunil Shanbhag. We can’t wait.
