Mumbai Diary: Friday frolics

Remembering Charles Correa
Yesterday marked one month since the passing away of Mumbai born architect, Charles Correa. We reproduce a photograph shared by a reader who spotted the late genius during an event in Mumbai.

Seen here, is Correa at the show, Howard Hodgkin: Paintings 1984-2015 - A Tribute, held at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, in February 2015.

Correa and the British abstractionist, Hodgkin were old friends, and had collaborated on the British Council building in Delhi. information and Pic courtesy/ Amit Vachharajani

Waiting game
‘Waitie-Latey’, was what Mumbai BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta was at a recent interactive meet at the Indian Merchants’ Chamber Walchand Hirachand Hall at Churchgate. The meet, slated to start at 5 pm (Wednesday, July 15) began by 6.40 pm.

The Commissioner did apologise profusely and even asked for forgiveness, when he arrived. During the waiting period, IMC president Dilip Piramal first told the restive audience who were charged up with questions for the civic chief to take a break for tea.

Post tea, when it was evident that Mehta would still not be in any time soon, he asked if people were keen in a spiritual talk. The audience weren’t inclined. They munched on their biscuits, sipped on tea or coffee or checked their mobiles.

Fans of popular singer Shankar Mahadevan who love to learn music online have much to cheer. The Shankar Mahadevan Academy (SMA), a music platform founded by the award-winning composer and singer, with the aim to bring high-quality Indian Classical music education online, has entered into an exclusive contract with Artist Aloud.

The later is a digital media, distribution and talent management platform for independent performers across the Globe. Artist Aloud, an initiative by Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Private Ltd is a one-stop destination for commercial Independent content across languages, genres and talent.

The platform currently houses original music from over 300 artistes — well-known as well as new and exciting names across a range of Indian and international genres. With this new partnership, Artist Aloud will release the content of SMA. They’ve attained the rights to promote and distribute this content through their distribution channels.

Detox in a parallel world
We pity the stress that restaurants have to endure to think up of offbeat ideas to woo patrons. When the times are hard, they create gems like these. Recently, a bar in a top luxury hotel chain offered ‘detox’ cocktails.

Their claim for good health was the use of ingredients such as coconut water, lemongrass and mint, mixed with liquor such as vodka and gin. Now, we wish that in the real world, it was possible to actually detox by consuming alcohol. We wonder if one too many of these healthy cocktails led to this brainwave.
