The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Mumbai Diary: Monday Dossier

Salute! sardar
Away from wizard-themed parties, this was a sedate book release in Delhi. Mike Edwards’ book, Spitfire Singh: A True Life of Relentless Adventure (Bloomsbury) was released at the residence of Sir Dominic Asquith, the British High Commissioner to India (top).

The book looks at the humble origins of Singh who started as a Hawai Sepoy to become one of the leading figures in the Indian Air Force, and is believed to have played a crucial role in making it the fourth largest Air Force in the world.

Sir Asquith said, “Edwards’ account of the evolution of the Indian Air Force demonstrates the strong bond that links the Royal Air Force and the Indian Air Force, a special partnership that we value and treasure.”

Travel inspired by Gul
If you are looking for a way to beat those Monday blues at work, check out Rastafari, a new music video that launches today on Culture Machine’s digital channel, Being Indian Music.

The four-minute video sees self-confessed adventure junkie Gul Panag get behind the wheels of a four-by-four jeep and cross Khardung La in Ladakh, as singer-songwriter Bishwadeb Bhaumik a.k.a DEB strums his guitar and belts out the foot-tapping number.

As we watched the actress feed horses, interact with the Ladakhis and soak in the picturesque, snow-capped mountains, we couldn't help but begin planning our next travel journey, all the while, humming the catchy hook, ‘Oh yay yay...’ like the actress does.

Business mantras from daily life
When one of India’s most successful business minds, Anand Mahindra shares his words of wisdom inspired from daily life sightings, we sit up and take note.

Recently, he posted this frame and wrote: ‘Sometimes life seems this way, doesn’t it? On the move, not sure where & wondering what to paint on that white canvas!’ We like the analogy, Mr Mahindra.

He can’t stop the feeling!
Going by this model’s reaction after he got selected, Justin Timberlake’s groovy track, Can’t Stop The Feeling came to our heads in a flash.

The setting was at a central Mumbai five-star where auditions were underway for the first-ever plus-size model auditions for a fashion week to be held in the city later. We couldn’t miss the politically correct choice of word to draw in the hype for this audition — curvy. You be the judge. Pic/Sneha Kharabe

Google Maps pulls all stops
If you constantly rely on GPS and the stock Google Maps app for navigation, there’s reason to rejoice. The company’s latest update allows you to add a stopover between two points of interest.

Confused? Earlier, while finding a route to reach a destination, all the Google Maps app would show was the route. Now, it allows you to add stopovers; say, a flower shop for a bouquet, or wine shop for booze, or an address to pick up your date for the evening. The best part? You can add as many stopovers as you wish.

Woof whistles at the movies
Founder-chairman of Osianama, Neville Tuli and Pritish Nandy offer some TLC to strays, two of five that frequent the footpath outside Liberty Cinema and are quite the adorable attraction for visitors at the Art Deco landmark.

Tuli and Nandy were greeted by the duo before they went in for a masterclass held as part of the ongoing international festival, Animal-Human-Nature Continuum over the weekend.
