The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce
Make me pretty, Elton!
YouTube sensation and DIY video star, Elton J Fernandez has added another feather to his cap. The self-taught make-up artist has been announced as a major American cosmetic brand's official make-up artist.
It had earlier signed actor Alia Bhatt as brand ambassador and more recently, actor Athiya Shetty. With a nation-wide following of his every move, this augers well for the Mumbai boy.
Athiya Shetty are part of the Bollywood bandwagon for the brand
He will share some trendy tips and looks at a forthcoming fashion week in the city for which the brand is associate sponsor. He will also give makeovers, share his expertise on new products, decode looks and create make-up trends on the runway. Attaboy, Elton!

Brush with Bangladesh
Rajeeb Samdani is pulling out all stops to make sure that his country gets its due attention on the art map. The industrialist and art patron wants Bangladeshi artists to find galleries in India, like Pakistani artists have.
ART’S THE WAY: (Left-right) Rajeeb Samdani, Sree Goswami and Shumon Ahmed
He was in the city on Wednesday for the opening of Bangladeshi Shumon Ahmed's debut solo, When Dead Ships Travel at Project 88. Ahmed has extensively shot the ship breaking yards at Baro Aulia, in Chittagong district, Bangladesh, and word is that Samdani was thrilled to learn that Ahmed had re-visited the site a few weeks before the opening to gain fresh perspective. Gallerist Sree Goswami had to say that after several Western lenses had shot Bangladesh's ship breaking yards, it was good to showcase a voice from within.
Just like animal planet
When it comes to animals, terms like intelligent, cute or beautiful are usually reserved for creatures such as puppies and peacocks. When was the last time you associated these endearing terms with, say, a bat or hyena?
Author Katie Bagli is eager to change prejudices about animals with her latest title, The Less Liked Lovables. Through this children's book (we think it might be equally enlightening for adults), the author hopes to share with readers that all creatures are lovable in their own way and play a role in the workings of nature. The book will be released on October 9 at the Bombay Natural History Society, Hornbill House at 6 pm. Call 22821811
The sign's up
On October 1, mid-day had reported how a signboard honouring Bollwyood actress Priyanka Chopra's late father, Dr Ashok Chopra in Versova, lay fallen for weeks.
SIGN OF THE TIMES: The new signboard
It is learnt that the actress had requested BMC to repair it but nothing was done for a while. After it was brought to light in mid-day (edition dated October 1, 2015), a new signboard was installed in the same spot.
