MAMI gets Bohri flavour
On Tuesday night, some of the judges of a city film fest including festival director Anupama Chopra, were spotted huddled around a thaal, poking at a Bheja Masala dish.

This was the mash-up between the film fest and the popular Bohri dining experience The Bohri Kitchen. Judges Thala Hadid, Christine Vachon, Maureen Fazendeiro, Chris McDonald, Mychael Danna, Tomasz Wasilewski, Tomasz Tyndyk, Smriti Kiran and Ambarish Satwik enjoyed a nine-course meal.

The non-vegetarian thaal included Mutton Kheema Samosas and Raan among other meaty treats. The vegan table had Smoked Dal Samosas, Kokum Alu, Jowari rotis and Coconut Kebabs. Talk veered from artsy stuff to discussions on food. At the end, some guests were so full they wanted to curl up and enjoy a nap!

Designer wear for a cause
Moving away from the glamour of the ramp, the who’s who of the fashion industry have joined hands for a noble cause — aesthetically and thoughtfully.

Weaves of Gratitude, an initiative in collaboration with a prominent fashion week held in the city, has roped in brands and designers like Ritu Kumar, Rohit Bal, Payal Khandwala, Rajesh Pratap and Hemant Aggarwal among others for an online auction of premium handwoven garments to raise investments for the families of the fallen soldiers of Uri.

The auction will go live this evening at 5 pm, and the website features most garments to be auctioned with their base prices. For the bereaved families, this certainly will be a sombre Diwali, but anything to shoulder that sorrow would go a long way.

Bohemian Bijlani
The last we heard of her was before the release of her ex-husband’s biopic, Azhar, when former model and actress Sangeeta Bijlani was apprehensive about her portrayal in it. Yesterday, she was spotted at the launch of the flagship store of a boho-chic brand from a leading design house. Carrying off a midi in style, it was good to see her all cool and carefree.

Oops, that wasn’t in the script!
In a bid to get the city’s denizens moving, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai launched its health campaign, Jaan Bachao, in collaboration with the Bhamla Foundation yesterday. Well-known filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani was roped in to direct a film to drive home the message. And who better than the fit-as-a-fiddle Akshay Kumar to be the face of the campaign?

While anchoring the event, actor Shekhar Suman made it a point to mention that both Hirani and Kumar had done the campaign pro bono. He also took a potshot at the MNS saying that while it was easy to demand R5 crore in donation, it wasn’t every day that industry professionals waived their fees.

Sitting in the audience was MNSâu00c2u0080u00c2u0088leader Shalini Thackeray, who Suman had perhaps not noticed. He later made it clear that the views expressed were his own, and not part of the script. Phew!

The endearing ways of AB
With 23 million followers on Twitter, and his unique style of numbering his tweets (the total stands at 2,423 when this page went to press), one would imagine Amitabh Bachchan to be fairly active on his smartphone.

But endearing as his generation is with technology, @SrBachchan proved that he is no different, when he jubilantly tweeted about the joy and convenience of using Twitter on his phone.

While his fans cheered AB on, Shabana Azmi was flabbergasted, wondering why he hadn’t done so all this while. Turns out, the legend was happy tweeting from his laptop.
